Eumundi market and Noosa Heads

We were up and out especially early in the morning, as our first stop was Eumundi market.  The market runs bi-weekly and is an enormous maze of art, craft, clothing and food stalls.  The market starts at 7am and runs until about 3pm, and you would need all that time if you were to stop and examine every stall closely - it's that big.

We rolled up about 9am after a 20 minute drive, and after a brief initial stroll around some of the stalls, we stopped for some breakfast of frozen yoghurt to energise us for the rest of our trip through the market, which took us the best part of 3 hours even though we didn't linger at many stalls.

Come lunchtime, we had a choice of a variety of authentic international dishes to try; Chinese noodles, German bratwurst, crépes and Thai curry all featured, to name a few, but we eventually settled on a very tasty paella.

Whilst eating, we were puzzled to see people stopping to look up and take photos of a seemingly innocuous section of a nearby building's roof.  After lunch we went over to see what the fuss was about, to find that a possum had taken residence in the eaves of the building's roof!  This was the first wild possum I had seen alive, the rest being examples if bloody roadkill on the roadside, so it was nice to see at least one in one piece!

After lunch and the possum show, we headed away from Eumundi and took a drive to nearby Noosa Heads.

Noosa is a very exclusive place to live, thanks to its location next to the sea and also on an expansive river delta.  There are many multi-million dollar river and beachside residences, and the high street boasts many high end designer shops and boutiques, as well as many bars, cafes, art galleries and of course estate agents to sell you all the property.

We parked up and took a walk down Main Beach, which is a stunning piece if coastline and was busy with sunbathers, swimmers and surfers, thanks to the fine weather, with temperatures hitting 30 degrees.  We had a drink at the local surf club, which has prime position on Main Beach and affords the best views.

It was with great reluctance that we dragged ourselves away from Noosa, a place that I now personally rate as within the top 5 of my favourite places on earth.  It is a crying shame that it is likely to be many years (if ever) until we set eyes on this town again.

It was another quiet evening, with a.light dinner in our room and a brief visit to the centre of Coolum Beach for a couple of drinks before bed time.  Another early start is on the cards, as we spend our last day in Australia at Australia Zoo.
