Tweed Heads and Coolangatta

After a somewhat disturbed sleep due to noisy neighbours, we were on the road out of Byron Bay at 10am.  Our first destination of the day was Macadamia Castle, which we had passed on the highway a couple of days before.  There was the promise of 'hot nuts', which couldn't be refused!

The visit was only short lived, as the place was basically a large gift shop selling assorted tat and the aforementioned nuts.  There was also a petting zoo which was expensive for what it was, so we declined to enter, although I had to drag Selina away at the sight of ducklings and hen chicks!

We then travelled north up the coast road, through Pottsville and Hastings Point, before arriving at our main destination for the day, Tweed Heads and Coolangatta.

These two towns are adjacent to each other, with Tweed Heads in New South Wales and Coolangatta in Queensland.  You may recall from an earlier post that New South Wales observes summer daylight savings time, whilst Queensland does not.  This creates the odd effect that you can literally cross the road at 2pm and arrive at the other side at 3pm, or vice versa!

We checked into our motel room, which has splendid views of the local park and popped to the local supermarket to stock up on supplies, before taking a walk along the seafront and having a couple if drinks in the local bar.

We then retired to our motel room for a spot of dinner (cheese and biscuits) and a bottle of wine whilst watching a local fitness club take over the park.

Next stop tomorrow is Surfer's Paradise, where we have booked two night's stay before heading back to Brisbane for the Austrailia day celebrations.
