Kicking out time in Ballina was 10am, so after a spot of breakfast we hit the coastal road, heading north towards Lennox Head. On the way, we spotted a turn off that led to a lookout point that gave stunning views of the beach at Lennox Head.
After taking a few pics, we headed into Lennox Head proper. It is smaller than Ballina, but with a main drag that runs parallel to the beach, it seemed a lot more vibrant. We got our feet wet in the South Pacific for the first time (I resisted the temptation to break into a rendition of 'There is Nothing like a Dame') and afterwards had a packed lunch on the grass foreshore whilst watching the local surfers do their thing.
After sticking my head into the local pub to check the football scores, we were on the road again to get to our main target for the day, Byron Bay. This is the most Easterly point of Australia (fact fans) and has a large calm beach area that seems more suited to bathers than to surfers. It was incredibly busy and the single beach side bar that we found was just as busy.
After a couple of drinks, we checked into our accommodation for the night, which has less of a view than the last one, but still clean and quiet.
As the afternoon drew on, we started getting hit by rain showers, which got more frequent throughout the evening. Therefore, we decided just to pop into the town's fish and chip shop for dinner. We enjoyed a sharing dish that consisted of two Hoki fillets, calamari rings, prawns and an oyster each, along with potato cakes, chips and sweet potato crisps. Needless to say, we were stuffed after this feast, but the quality of the seafood kicked anything I've ever had from a fish and chip shop in the UK well into touch.
We've managed to drag our swollen bodies back to the motel, so we are sat on our balcony enjoying a bottle of wine and planning tomorrow's escapades.
