The Journey Begins

The day is finally here!

We arrived at the airport in typically early fashion; I always go by the mantra "better an hour early than one minute late".  On this occasion we were 4 hours early, which I admit is taking it to extremes a little bit, but I don't mind hanging around airports for extended periods as I am an inveterate people-watcher (a passtime that Selina luckily enjoys too!).

Unfortunately on checking in for the flight, despite heavily playing the honeymoon card, no free upgrade from economy class was forthcoming - the flight is fully booked.  However, we did get the check in lady to put a note on our file that we were on honeymoon, so we may get lucky after we stop in Dubai and get turned around ready to go on to Singapore - fingers crossed!

After a coffee with Mum and Dad, who very kindly gave us a lift to Heathrow, we submitted ourselves to the security checks - a chore at the best of times but something that is always made longer than it should be, thanks to the inability of people to plan ahead.  It seems that for most people, they go into "holiday mode" the second they step foot into an airport terminal.  This strips the individual of the ability to read signs and/or to follow simple instructions from airport security staff.

I was about to go into a long rant about how people should plan ahead for this part of the process, but I'll spare you that as the only person it will please is me!

Having negotiated security, I am now sat in a rather pleasant airport lounge - a Christmas present from Mum and Dad.  Think 5-star hotel bar or club lounge - free drinks and nibbles plus a complimentary glass of champagne (another present from the parents), which is getting the honeymoon off to a very stress-free start!

We start boarding in about an hour from now.  We're on one of Emirates' Airbus A380s, so although we're still in economy, I still hope for a very comfortable flight!  No delays are being shown, so it looks like we'll get off on time.  Next stop is Dubai airport, where we have a 2.5 hour layover before going on to Singapore.  TTFN
