The next stop on our journey was Ashburton, Selina's home whilst she lived in New Zealand. As it was a bank holiday when we arrived, most of the town was shut up; like in Australia, bank holidays here are taken seriously.
We took a drive through the town centre and some of the residential areas, to see where Selina used to live and see what had changed and what had stayed the same. We also went out to the nearby beach in the hope that we would see some dolphins that are known to congregate nearby, but unfortunately they didn't appear to order!
We were staying at the home of one if Selina's friends, so come tea time we arrived there and had a catch up and a few drinks before dinner. We spent the rest of the evening chatting before turning in for the night.
The next day we took a drive to nearby Methven, which is the main base for the nearby skiing resort of Mount Hutt. The drive up to the down was very picturesque as the clouds had finally lifted and the mountains emerging from the farmland were now in full view... New Zealand had finally stopped playing coy and was showing me all she had to offer!
As were in the summer, we weren't surprised when we arrive at Methven to find many of the shops closed, but of course there's not much demand for ski hire and trips to the piste when there's no snow! However the location gave us the opportunity to get some good pics of the mountains.
We were staying with Selina's friends in Ashburton again that night, so after exploring the remainder of Methven, we headed back to their house, stopping on the way for supplies for dinner.
Tomorrow, we will be heading off to Moeraki.
