We woke to rain again, the third day in a row. There was talk on the news of local towns being cut off by flood water and of evacuations being ordered. We took a soggy walk to the local McDonalds, so that we could make use of their free wifi to get online and see what we could do that kept us indoors!
We settled on a visit to Ripley's Believe it or Not, which was just down the road. Although slightly more geared to families, the visit was enjoyable. As we returned to the street, we were pleased to see that the rain had finally stopped and in fact was looking quite bright.
We made the most of the dry by taking a walk up the beach and more deeply into Surfers Paradise town centre, taking notes on the locations of interesting looking bars that might visit later in the evening.
After dinner in our apartment, the weather was still dry, so we struck out to hit a few bars and see what the nightlife was like. It is definitely more lively than the towns we have visited previously but yet again after a relatively small number of drinks we found ourselves tucked up in our apartment with a bottle of wine!
We head back to Brisbane tomorrow. Sadly, the planned Australia Day celebrations have been cancelled due to the weather, but we'll be able to continue our exploration of the city nonetheless.

ReplyDeleteAnd give my love to Brisbane. I spent a couple of months there, back in my youth...
